The land for the passengers on the Blessing was to be laid out on Stonoe Creek and a town laid out reserving 5 acres for a church. The town was never built. [Collections]

The Blessing then sailed to New York and returned 13 December.  Halsted then sailed to Barbados and then back to Carolina when in June 1673, he took the Blessing to England. [Collections] [Another source states that the Blessing sailed for England September 1671 – but that does not seem to agree with records of arrival.]

The Blessing arrived 13 Dec. 1671 in SC with 30 people; the Phoenix with 20 people which included:

This group from New York on the Blessing and the Phoenix was to be settled in James Towne (James Island).  They erected a town, 300 acres laid out to water side in a creek southward from Stonoe Crk. for a town. 5 poles each person and 10 acre lots.  Stono Crk. (now Wappoo) but actually on James Island Crk.

The Carolina reached land and anchored at Sewee Bay/Bull’s Island March 17; reached Port Royal about March 21 and stayed 2 days, then to St. Helena; then to Kiawah, Ashley River, arriving early in April.  The five commoners of the Council: Jos. Dalton, R. Donne, Ra. Marshall, Paul Smyth and S. West were elected while they were “lying” at St. Helena.
