2 – The Johannes Reinhardt Family
Johannes Reinhardt born 21 May 1713 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany, married on 18 November 1734 in Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany to Agness Staiger born before 8 May 1717 in Katholisch, Kisslegg, Donaukreis, Württemberg, Germany, daughter of Mathias Staiger and Magdalena Graber. Agness Staiger was christened 8 May 1 717 (Batch Number C932731-Source 1044445).
The family of John Rinehart arrived in South Carolina in 1752 on the boat “Caledonia”. At that time John Rinehart had a wife and two children: Elizabeth age 9 and Mathias age 4. John Rinehart (Johannes Reinhardt), as John Rheynard, obtained a 200 acre bounty survey on Cannons Creek, near Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pomaria, South Carolina. This grant was sold by grantee in 1762 to John Kennet (John Kinard, Sr.) (Memorials 6-21). In the same year John Rinehart purchased the 200 acre bounty grant of John Michael Gadringer on Crims Creek. This tract was passed down from John Rinehart to son, Matthias Rinehart (Lagrone to Kibler, Newberry Deeds I-199)
I. Matthaeus Reinhardt born 11 March 1735-1736 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany.
II. Johannes Reinhardt born 13 April 1737, Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany.
III. Agnes Reinhardt born 5 October 1738 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany.
IV. Johannes Reinhardt born 16 August 1740 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany
V. Maria Elizabeth Reinhardt born 1743 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany. Maria Elisabeth Reinhart also known as Elizabeth Rinehart obtained a Memorial for 100 acres on the north side of Broad River, on waters of Fish Dam Creek bounding northeast by land held by Thomas Hollingsworth (present Union County, SC). Elizabeth sold these 100 acres to John McPherson. I have no additional information on Elizabeth Rinehart.
VI. Matthäus Reinhardt born 20 June 1745 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany, died as a baby.
VII. Johannes Reinhardt born 31 October 1746 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany
VIII. Matthias Reinhardt born 3 July 1748 Unterhausen, Schwarzw, Württemberg, Germany, died before 12 October 1808 South Carolina. Matthias was a planter. He married Anna Margaret Lagrone, born about 1749 in Schoenau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany and died after 1815 in Newberry County, SC. She was a daughter of Tobias Lagrone and his wife, Mary.
The birth record spelled Matthias’ name as Mattaeus Reinhardt. His father listed was Johannes Reinhardt and mother as Agnes Staiger. (Film # 447923, Reference #81731). In September 1772, he obtained a memorial for 100 acres of land, waters of Crim’s Creek (present Newberry County, SC) bounding on land of John Mills, Martin Cromers (?), Conrad Shirers and John Rinehart. Mathias Rinehart served in the Revolution in the SC Militia under Capt. Houseal and Col. Waters from 13 May 1780 to 16 November 1782. He appears on the 1790 SC census in the 96th District of Newberry County, (page 78) under the name of Mattais Raneheart with two males 16 and over; two males under 16 and five females. On the 1800 SC census he appears under the name of Matthias Rhinehart in Newberry District with one male 10 and under, two males 10-16, one male 45 and up. We find in the testate record and from a land sale dated 1889 that the wife of Matthis is named Anna Margaret Lagrone. The sale of property in 1789 proves that she and Matthias were married by that date. The sale of Matthias Rhynhart property (personal) in 1808 does not shed much light on the names of his children. David and Mary Rhynhart shared in his estate and were probably children. All of the children listed below are mentioned in the settlement of the estate of Matthais Rinehart in 1808 as buyers of his personal property.
A. Mary Rinehart died 22 September 1846 SC; apparently never married.
B. Catherine Rinehart born about 1770 Craven County, NC, died before 1813. She married Lawrence Hare born about 1765 in Craven County, NC and died before October 1833 in Edgefield County, SC, son of Peter Hair and Catherine Rikard. Lawrence Hair bought 135 acres of land from John Kinard on 28th April 1806 and 200 acres from Lewis Etheridge on 31 December 1806. On 25 January 1836, John Hair conveyed his interest in land which had previously belonged to Lawrence Hair. The 1810 Edgefield District, SC census, page 76, shows his household with one male between 1-10, 1 male between 16-26, 1 male 45, 4 females between 1-16 and 1 female over 45. He died in testate and there is not a list of heirs included in the estate documents. William Etheredge, William B. Fortner and Arthur West were appointed administrators. These men may have married three of Lawrence’s daughters. His family name was spelled both as Hare and Hair in the estate sale.
