Peter Richardson was born 1781. During slavery, his owner was Dr. James Hopkins of Hopkins, SC. Dr. James Hopkins was the son of SC Lt. Governor John Hopkins. The town of Hopkins is named for this family. This family originally came from Virginia. Lt. Governor Hopkins owned the Back Swamp Plantation. His son Dr. James Hopkins owned the Bluff Mill Plantation on the Bluff Road, Cabin Creek Plantation (area surrounding Lower Richland High School and McGregor Farm) and Alwehav Plantation located near the Eastover Fire Tower. All of the plantations were passed on to his daughter Mrs. Kesiah Goodwin Hopkins Brevard when he died in 1844. Mrs. Brevard inherited an additional plantation in 1845 when her husband Joseph Brevard died. Mrs. Brevard inherited some 108 slaves from her father and an additional 25 slaves from her husband.
