IN MEMORIAM
Mrs. Perry (Beatrice G.) Mack, correspondent for the “Lexington Dispatch,” died suddenly of an apparent heart attack early January 12 at her home in Swansea.  Services were conducted at Swansea Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. January 12 by her pastor the Reverend James P. Hawsey, assisted by the Reverend Erskine Shivers, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, and the Reverend Frank Massa, pastor of Bethel Independent Bible Church, Edmund.  Mrs. Larry (Jane) Mack granddaughter, and organist at Bethel Independent Bible Church, furnished music for the service and grandsons served as pallbearers.  Burial followed at Melrose Cemetery, Swansea. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lindy (Theresa) Hughes, Neeses; two sons, P. W. Mack, Jr., Swansea; Karl E. Mack, Williston; a brother, George A. Goodwin, Columbia; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Mack was born in Swansea in 1902, daughter of the late Jesse W. and Carolyn Rast Goodwin.  Her ancestors built the first house in the town and donated land on which the first churches were built.  She had great love and concern for her family, her town, and its people.  (She always contended that “taking two aspirins and riding through Swansea would cure any ailment.”) Her interest in and compassion for those who were bereaved sick and shut-in was well known, as she made frequent visits with food and gifts.  Nor was her visitation limited to those in trouble.  She enjoyed Christmas parades, wedding celebrations, new babies, family reunions, and church homecomings with the enthusiasm of the very young.  Loving all children, she carried little bags of goodies for them wherever she went and was actively involved in securing adequate public protection for abused and neglected children.  “Miss Bea” was a great lady who enriched the lives of those who knew her and the town she loved so well will miss her. The family of Mrs. Beatrice G. Mack!
