A Sad Death.
Possibly one of the saddest deaths ever to occur in Camden was that of Mrs. W. T. Hammond last Monday evening about 7 o’clock. She had not been sick long and her death was entirely unexpected. She leaves eight children, one boy and seven girls - the youngest of who was two years old the day her mother was buried. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church, conducted by the Revs. John Ferris and W. C. Fail The interment took place in the cemetery. A heartbroken husband and his little children have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.

2 Men Shot To Death At Camden.
Camden, Nov. 12 (Special) Two men are dead and a third is being held as the result of a shooting affray early this morning at the Hudson cafe in Lewisville, just outside the eastern city limits of Camden.  Thomas Charles Myers, 52, a retired army officer, is being held without bail at the county jail after officers said he had fatally shot John Wesley Hudson, 45, cafe proprietor, and Marion Foster Tidwell, 34, taxi line operator.  Authorities are puzzled over the motive for the killing of Hudson and Tidwell, close friends of Myers, Myers entered the cafe about 2:30 a.m. carrying a double barreled shotgun. Hudson and Tidwell were seated at the cafe counter having a midnight snack and when Myers entered, both nodded cordially.  Myers is reported by police to have walked to within ten feet of Hudson and Tidwell when he drew aim on Hudson and pulled the trigger.  The charge entered Hudson's body on the right side and he fell from the stool dying.  Then police said Myers leveled the gun at Tidwell and shot him in the right side just under the arm, the charge passing through his body, killing him instantly.  Opening the breach of the gun and spilling the exploded shells, police said Myers injected another shell and then noting Hudson was still breathing, put the muzzle of the gun close to Hudson's head and shot him again.  Hudson's head was mutilated.  After that Myers walked out and back of the lot into a cabin that Hudson had permitted him to occupy as a dwelling. He placed his gun in a corner, police said, and then went back to the café where he called the county jail and informed Ben DeBruhl, who was on night duty, that he had just killed two men and to come and get him.  Prior to this call, however, a call from Mrs. H. E. Fann, who lives in an apartment over the cafe.  She told him that there had been a shooting.  Sheriff DeBruhl dispatched Rural Officers Hazel Myers and Leo Rose to the scene.  They found Myers in the cafe and he offered no resistance when they took him into custody.  Friends of Myers, also a brother and nephew, who were interrogated, said that he had been married four times and has a daughter by his first wife now living in Charlotte.  Sheriff DeBruhl said this afternoon that an inquest would be held by Coroner Purdy Lee but the date has still to be fixed.  Mrs. Hudson was in a state of prostration today and could not be questioned as to the details of what happened incident to the double killing.  The double slaying caused a wave of excitement in Lewisville and all day crowds of curious people walked past the café and peered in the windows, the place being locked.  Mr. Tidwell leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Tidwell; four brothers, Jules, Bryant and Carson of Camden and Otis of Chester; two sisters, Mrs. Austin Myers and Bessie Tidwell of Camden. Funeral services will be held from the Heritage Baptist church at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.  Mr. Tidwell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Mr. Hudson leaves his widow, Marie Davis Hudson; a son, Edward W. of this city; his mother, Mrs. J. W. Hudson, Sr. this city; five brothers, H.C., H.H., and M.M. of this city, W. W. of Columbia and Wallace of the United States navy; four sisters, Mrs. D. S. Shull, Mrs. W. T. Boyley, Mrs. J. T.
