Mrs. Essie Pauline Abbott, 79, wife of Leonard T. Abbott, of 3725 Heyward St., died Friday at her home. Born in Fairfield County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Susan B. Dunn. She was a member of South Beltline Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, James Abbott of Eastover and Charles Abbott of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Watson of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mervin A. Brown. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. R. L. Amick Of Columbia Dies
Mrs. Sallie Leile Amick, 75, of 4003 Lamar street, died at her residence at 2:30 Monday morning after a year of declining health.  Mrs. Amick was born in Fairfield county on July 17, 1873, the daughter of the late J. A. Huffstetler, a native of North Carolina, and Amanda Dunn Huffstetler. She was a faithful member of St. Peter's Piney Woods Lutheran church near Chapin.  She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Amick; three daughters, Mrs. D. D. Price, Mrs. Samuel L. Koon and Mrs. Kenneth W. Mohr, all of Columbia; four sons, L. Monroe Amick, Claude G. Amick, R. Heber Amick and R. Ray Amick, all of Columbia; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Amick of Ware Shoals; five brothers, W. D. Huffstetler of Chapin, James A. Huffstetler of Columbia, John L. Huffstetler of West Columbia, Robert A. Huffstetler of Prosperity, Charles S. Huffstetler of Newberry; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held from the Lutheran of the Reformation at 2 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Wynne C. Boliek, Interment will be in Macedonia Lutheran church-yard, near Chapin.  Pallbearers will be six nephews, Horace Amick, Wilbur Huffstetler, Ellis Huffstetler, Lloyd Huffstetler, Elbert Huffstetler, and Maynardy Huffstetler.  They are requested to meet at the Talbert Funeral home promptly at 2:15 this afternoon.  The body will remain at Talbert's until the time of the services.

Robert B. Baird was born in Winnsboro, S. C., Jan. 24th 1819, married to Miss Mary C. Allen, Nov. 24th 1840, removed shortly after to Alabama, where he and his wife joined the Methodist Church; thence they removed to Louisiana in which stated he died Sept. 28th 1874. He left a wife and ten children--five sons and five daughters.

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Alvin O. Bankhead, 70, of 4647 Mountain Gap Road died Tuesday, August. 31, 1999, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.  A Graveside service with Masonic rites will be 11 a.m. today at Hebron Presbyterian Church cemetery, with the Rev. John Rumford officiating.  A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Bankhead was a son of the late William McLin Bankhead and Esther McKeown Bankhead. He was a retired supervisor with J.P. Stevens Co. and owner of Alvin Bankhead Construction Co. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Rossville Volunteer Fire Department.  Surviving are his wife, Martha Simpson Bankhead; three daughters, Lynn B. Jackson of Manning, Susan B. Andrews of Lamar and Pixley B. Roberts on of Lexington; two brothers, William Bankhead and Karl Bankhead, both of Blackstock; his sister, Elizabeth Cornwell; and six grandchildren.  Memorials may be made to Palmetto Baptist Cancer Institute, Taylor at Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29220 or Shriners Hospital, 950 W. Winnsboro - Services for K. C. Beasley, 84, will be held at 1 p.m. today, February 10, 2000 at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. The Rev. Ellen Younker will officiate. Pope Funeral Home of Winnsboro is in charge.  Mr. Beasley died Tuesday, February 8, 2000. Born June 30, 1916 in Camden, he was a son of the late Kervin Albert and Lillie Faust Beasley. He was married to the late Eva Bowers Beasley. Mr. Beasley was a retired insurance representative with Liberty Life Insurance Company, was a member of Gordon United Methodist Church and life member and Past Master of Winnsboro Masonic Lodge # 11 AFM.  Surviving are a daughter, Barbara B. Bane of Columbia; brothers, S. K. “Buddy” Beasley and Cecil Beasley both of Winnsboro; sisters, Claudine Humphries, Clivie McDonald and Margie Thigpen, all of Winnsboro, Annabell Sharpe of Blythewood and Marilyn Branham of Centerville; grandchildren, Chris Bane, Terri Davenport and Jody Truesdale; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald K. Beasley.

KERSHAW, April 16 - Mrs. Lillie Bowers, 57, died at her home in Winnsboro today after an extended illness.  She was a member of the Thorn Hill Baptist Church near Kershaw.  Survivors include her husband, Ernest Bowers of Winnsboro; one daughter, Mrs. Eva M. Bensley of Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. K. B. Catoe of Kershaw and Mrs. L. F. Godwin of Columbia, and two brothers, Claude of Kershaw and Rufus Faulkenberry of Lancaster.  Funeral services will be conducted from the Thorn Hill Baptist Church Kershaw, Route 2, at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon by the pastor, the Rev. M. M. Rabon, assisted by the Rev. Roy Neal.  The body will be at the home of Mrs. K. B. Catoe until the services.

Born in Blythwood, September 3, 1909, he was a son of the late James Allen Branham and Mary Abbott Branham.  He retired from Uniroyal, Inc. and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ridgeway Ward.  Surviving are brothers, James Clyburn Branham, Winnsboro, Collie Branham, Leesville, Grady Branham, Columbia; sisters, Clara Branham and Irene Stockman, both of Elgin; several grandchildren . He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Branham and daughter, Ophelia Branham.

Born May 13, 1918, in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of the late Vess Rollins and Mary Drew Rollins, and was married to the late Lewis Burrel Brazell, Sr.  She was a retired employee of Uniroyal Inc., and a member of Wesleyan Church. Surviving are sons, Lewis B. Brazell, Jr., and Albert Brazell, both of Winnsboro; daughters, Linda Thompson and Mary Ellen Killian, both of Great Falls, Phyllis Craft of Winnsboro and Cheryl Broom of Lake Wateree; brother , Boyd Rollins of Freeport, La.; sisters, Ruth McLain of Greenwood and Susie Crusoe of Key West, Fla.; grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Claude J. Carman, 57, of Route 3, Winnsboro, died at the Baptist Hospital at 9:30 Sunday night after an illness of nine weeks.  He was born in Fairfield County, a son of William S., and Janie Harrison Carman. He was a retired air conditioning man, and a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.  He was a member of Woodman of the World.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine E. Carman; one son, Claude B. Carman of Route 3 Winnsboro; two brothers, S. M. Carman and William W. Carman, both of Winnsboro; and three grandchildren.  Funeral plans are incomplete.  The family is at the home, and the body is at Paschal Funeral Home.

Winnsboro – Sabritt Dunn Cathcart, Sr., 64, of Rt. 3, Winnsboro, died Saturday afternoon following a heart attack. He was born in Fairfield County, the son of the late Samuel C. and Ella Doty Cathcart. He was a dairy farmer and a member of the Farm Bureau Soil Conservation Program. He attended Erskine College and Clemson University. He was a member of Bethel A.R.P. Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Estes Cathcart; a daughter, Mrs. George M. Thomas of Atlanta; three sons, Sabritt D. Cathcart, Jr., William Estes Cathcart and John W. Cathcart III, all of Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Bennett of Mildord Del., and Mrs. Gaston Moffatt of Charlottesville, Va.; two brothers, William D. of Kershaw and Joe K. Cathcart of Winnsboro.

Born in Fairfield County, March 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Charles Otis and Winnie Mae Harwell Dinkins. He retired from Dinkins Logging Co. after 40 years and was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran of the Korean conflict.  Surviving are his wife, Fay Mincey Dinkins of the home; sons, Charles E. “Chuck” Dinkins, Jr., Charlton O. “Chip” Dinkins and Chester R. “Chet” Dinkins, all of Sumter, Charnell “Chan” Dinkins and Chadwick K. “Chad” Dinkins, both of Ridgeway; daughters, Susan Carol Cade of Batesburg, Sharon Carletta of Ridgeway; sister, Jessie Mae D. Thompson of Sumter; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Odell L. Dinkins.

Funeral Services Today For Mrs. A.W. Eargle
Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Evans Eargle, 73, who died at 12:45 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at her residence, 1413 Barnwell street, were held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at McCormick’s mortuary conducted by the Rev. H.A. McCullough and the Rev. R.C. Betts. Interment was in the Salem Presbyterain churchyard in Fairfield county.   Mrs. Eargle was a native of Fairfield county but has made her home in Columbia for the past 10 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, and a woman admired by all who knew her. Surviving her are her husband, A.W. Eargle; two daughters, Mrs. De_ Ropp and Mrs. R.E. Cook, both of Columbia; one son, C.E. Eargle of Spartanburg; one sister, Mrs. A, M. Wallace of Ridgewood and several grandchildren.  Active pallbearers at the funeral were: J.M. Koon, B.T. Bodie, J.K. Smith , D. W. Roof , J.M. Ellitt and J.E. Wallace.

Minor Gladden was born in Fairfield District, S. C., 16th Nov 1878, and died Dec. 16, 1867, one month over eighty years of age. In my boyhood he was my neighbor and his children were my school fellows. Amongst them was one who linked his name to the history of his country-- Gen. A. W. Gladden, who commanded the South Carolina Regiment after the fall of his superior officers in Mexico, under Gen. Scott; and who fell by a wound received on the battlefield of Shiloh. He left several children and grand-children.

She was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of the late Burrell and Lucy Peake Brazell and was the widow of the late George B. Gunter. She had retired from Uniroyal and was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene.   Surviving are one son, Lanny R. Gunter of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Lucy G. and Clifford Barfield of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Brenda Gunter of Santa Fe, Texas; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son, George F. Gunter.

Bill Porter, all of Winnsboro; sister, Florence P. Short; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren . She was predeceased by her son, Don Gunter of N. Hollywood, Calif.

Amanda Melvina Dunn HUFFSTETLER

MEMORIAL DAY AT ST. PETERS
On Sunday, September 17, 1978, at 3 p.m., a memorial service was held in St. Peters (Pineywoods) Lutheran Church, Chapin, in memory of Mrs. Amanda Dunn Huffstetler. The service was conducted by the Rev. John Zeigler, pastor of St. Peters Church.  Approximately one hundred relatives and a few close friends attended the service. Amanda was born June 17, 1841 and died February 15, 1881.  She was the wife of the late James Leander Huffstetler.  She was buried at Blythewood in a lovely wooded area near U.S. Highway 21 until her remains were transferred a few months ago to St. Peters Church to rest beside her husband and children.
Today many descendents of James Leander and Amanda Huffstetler live throughout South Carolina and the United States.

Robert Lee Andrew HUFFSTETLER

Newberry - Robert Lee Andrew Huffstetler, 84, died Sunday at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.  He had been in declining health for a number of years.  Mr. Huffstetler was born in Fairfield County and was the son the late James Andrew and Amanda Dumm Huffstetler.  He had lived in Lexington and Newberry County most of his life.  Mr. Huffstetler is survived by three sons, Virgil L. Huffstetler, Newberry, J. G. Huffstetler, Joanna and W. L. Huffstetler of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Huffman, Little Mountain, Mrs. Vernon Smith, Prosperity, and one brother, Charles S. Huffstetler of Newberry.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. from St. Peters Pineywoods Church.

William David HUFFSTETLER

William David Huffstetler, 91, died Friday afternoon at his home, Route 1, Chapin.  He had been in ill health for the past two years and was ill for the last six weeks.  Huffstetler was born and reared in the Blythewood section of Fairfield County, a son of the late James A. and Amander Dunn Huffstetler.  He operated his farm near Chapin as long as his health permitted and was as member of St. Peter's Pineywoods Lutheran Church and served as a member of the council and was superintendent of the Sunday School for more than 30 years.  His wife, Mrs. Decie Catherine Shealy Huffstetler, died a number of years ago.  Surviving are seven sons, Arthur M., Ollie K., Elbert L., Aggie L.,  Malcolm Loyd, William Rayford and Howey B. Huffstetler; three daughters,  Mrs. John Epting, Mrs. Ansel Slice and Mrs. Carl Shealy, all of Chapin; a  brother Robert L. Huffstetler of Prosperity; a half-brother, Charles  Huffstetler of Newberry; 41 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.  Funeral was held Sunday afternoon from St. Peter's Pineywoods Lutheran Church by Rev. John Ziegler.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
Grandsons were active pallbearers; granddaughters' assisted with the flowers and members of St. Peter's Pineywoods Church Council composed the honorary escort.  McSwain Funeral Home in charge.

She was a member of Chapin Baptist Church, the Ladies Golf Association at Mid Carolina Country Club and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  Surviving are her husband, William Franklin Hunter of Chapin; daughter and son-in-law, Pameil and Ron Park of Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Deborah Hunter of Cloumbia, Dave and Carol Hunter of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren.

Services for Nettie Huffstetler Hunter, 86, of 900 Indigo Ave., Cayce, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.  Memorials may be made to the church.  Mrs. Hunter died Monday, July 6, 1992.  Born in Little Mountain, she was as daughter of the late John and Ella Amick Huffstetler.  She was a member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church.  Surviving are her husband, Walter Boyd Hunter; daughters, Dorothy Stevens of Columbia and Claudia Shuler of Holly Hill; a son, James Hunter of West Columbia; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Moved to Hernando Co. with his mother and two sisters in 1872. Was married to Miss Lee Miller. Crystal River, 1887, daughter of James L. and Virginia B. Miller. A son, George Herman Jennings died at 10 mos. Survived by his wife, Lee; a son J.A. Jennings, Jr.; daughters, Mrs. G.R. Ellis, Mrs. Gus Wilder and Mrs. Whitehurst; one sister, Mrs. R.B. Grubbs.

Henry T. JONES

Biographical Sketch
Henry T. Jones, another old settler, and a prominent farmer of Washington Township, was born December 11, 1838, in Pickensville, Pickens County, Alabama, a son of Thomas and Sarah (Frazier) Jones, natives of South Carolina (Fairfield District). Thomas Jones was born in 1797, his father also being of South Carolina, of English descent. Thomas Jones was reared and married in South Carolina, and in 1838 moved to Alabama, where the subject of this sketch was born, in December of the same year. In 1848 he came to this county and entered a tract of wild land in the woods, and cleared up the farm on which our subject now resides. He died September 6, 1854. At the time of his death he owned over 1,000 acres of land, and about sixty slaves. His wife died December 25, 1848, at the age of thirty-seven years, a member of the Presbyterian Church. They were the parents of seven children, two of whom are now living, viz: the subject of this sketch, the eldest and Sarah (now Mrs. Jesse McMahan of this county, whose sketch appears in this work). Mr. Jones was reared on the farm on which he still lives, and received a good education in the common schools of this county. After his father's death he carried on a mercantile business at Beach Hill, which was owned by his father. In 1861 he enlisted in the Sixth Arkansas Infantry, in which he served as orderly sergeant of Company E. In December, 1861, he as transferred to quartermaster's department, and served in this department until the close of the war. He never took part in any battles. He was captured at the siege of Vicksburg, but was immediately paroled and put in camp in Mississippi. At the close of the war he returned home and resumed farming on the old homestead, at which he has continued ever since. Mr. Jones was married March 28, 1867, to Miss Hattie A. Cobb, a native of Florida, born October 3, 1844 in Monticello, Florida. To this union have been born four children, three of whom are still living, viz: Lena (an attractive young lady, born February 13, 1868), Joel (born November 19, 1869), Sula (born October 21, 1827), and Hattie (deceased). Mr. Jones owns a farm of over 700 acres of fine farming land, with 100 acres under cultivation, raising principally cotton. He also devotes considerable attention to raising cattle and sheep. He operates a large steam cotton gin and grist-mill, the capacity of the former being ten bales of cotton per day and of the latter, seventy-five bushels per day. Mr. Jones is a member of the K. of H. and County Wheel. He was an Old Line Whig, but is now independent in politics. Mrs. Jones is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Mr. Jones is a successful farmer, a good citizen, and takes an active interest in all public enterprises for the good of the community.

WINNSBORO -- Funeral services for Emma Catherine McKeown Leitner, age 100, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Bethel United Methodist Church, conducted by The Reverend Kathy Griffin, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at Pope Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Fairfield Memorial Hospital, PO Box 620, Winnsboro, SC 29180, or to Bethel United Methodist Church, 6688 State Highway 269, Winnsboro, SC 29180.  Mrs. Leitner died Monday, April 2, 2007. Daughter of the late Ephraim and Emma Lewis McKeown, "Miss Katie" was born on July 26, 1906, in Red Knob of Fairfield County and graduated from Greenbrier High School. She was the widow of the late John Wesley Leitner, Sr. She was a loving wife and mother and a friend to all she met. In 1956 she opened a little country store on Highway 215 where she sold Phillips 66 gas, dry goods, fresh meats, hoop cheese, and just about anything else one could need on any given day. She retired in 1976 and enjoyed taking care of her greatgrandchildren and keeping in touch with all her family and friends. Miss Katie was always available, so her relatives and neighbors would stop by daily, sure to receive some Sanka coffee and something to eat along with the latest news in the family and community. She was the oldest living member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She had been in Fairfield Homes since 2002 before going to Fairfield Memorial Hospital where she went on to meet her Lord.  Mrs. Leitner is survived by one son, Hugh James Leitner, Sr. and his wife Doris Wiles Leitner of Winnsboro; two daughters-in-law, Virginia Storey "Ginny" Leitner of Chapin and Viola Hawkins Leitner of Fargo, ND; one sister-in-law, Esther Leitner Hornsby of Winnsboro; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Leitner was predeceased by two sons, John Wesley Leitner, Jr. and William Daniel "Billy" Leitner.  The family extends special thanks to the entire staff of Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  Pope Funeral Home is serving the Leitner family.

Mrs. Jessie Caldwell Lewis of Winnsboro, the sister of a Chester resident, died Tuesday, January 10. She was 85.
The funeral was conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday in Greenbrier United Methodist Church with burial made in the church cemetery. Pope Funeral Home was in charge.  Mrs. Lewis, the widow of Mr. Roy A. Lewis Sr., was born in Fairfield County, a daughter of the late Mr. Frank Caldwell and the late Mr. Kate Delaney Caldwell. She was a member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church.  She is survived by two sons, Roy A. Lewis Jr. and Frank C. Lewis, both of Rion; two daughters, Miss Jessie Lewis of Charleston and Mrs. Lucy L. Abbott of Winnsboro; a brother, Frank Caldwell Sr. of Chester; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.  The family suggests that memorials be made to the Greenbrier United Methodist Church cemetery fund.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ROBERT A. LEWIS
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the Bethlehem Methodist church near Woodward for Mr. Robert Alexander Lewis. Rev. G. W. Burke, pastor of the church conducted the services, assisted by Rev. S. A. Ewart. Interment was made in the graveyard of the church.  Mr. Lewis, who was 62 years of age, passed away Saturday afternoon about five o'clock at his home near Woodward following a long period of declining health. He was a native of Fairfield county, and was a prominent farmer and merchant of the Woodward section. He was married to Miss Sara Agnes McKeown, of Woodward, who died in 1918.  He is survived by four sons and three daughters, Y. G. Lewis, of Avon; Roy A. Lewis, of Winnsboro; Herbert 11. Lewis, of Tabor, N. C.; Mrs. Robert Banks, of Avon; Mrs. Walker Leitner, of Winnsboro; Mrs. Clifton Cota, of Palmer, Mass., and Robert A. Lewis, Jr., of Woodward. Three surviving brothers and four sisters are: J. L. Lewis, of Great Falls; T. W. Lewis, Mrs. E. F. McKeown and Mrs. W. T. Sanders, of Winnsboro; Mrs. W. H. McKeown, of Great Falls, and Mrs. L. H. Glass, of Covington, Tenn. Fourteen I grandchildren also survive.

Hugh MILLING

An old Revolutionary Officer gone. Died, at his farm, on the Jackson's Creek, in Fairfield District, Captain Hugh Milling, and officer in the army of the Revolution, born at Drumbo, County Down, Ireland, on the 21st February 1752. He emigrated to America about the year 1774, when the first revolutionary movements was made in that city. At that time he joined accompany of Grenadiers, raised by Capt. M'Call, by whom the British Arsenal was forced open .... in 1778 was commissioned first Lieutenant in the Sixth Continental Regiment of S.C [South Carolina?], and in 1779, a Captain in the same regiment .... For upwards of 40 years he was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and had the satisfaction of seeing allhis children grown up and most of them become members of the same church ..died on the 7th May, 1837, aged 85 years, 2months, and 16 days.

Duncan M. PEAKE

Ridgeway - Duncan Munn Peake, 69, of Ridgeway, died at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Friday. He was born in Kershaw County, son of the late Benna Sutton Peake and Jesse Lee Peake. He was for a number of years in construction work and later with Civil Service, retiring in 1945. He then became engaged in farming and was a merchant until health forced him to retire.  He was married three times, first to the late Miss Minnie Boulaware. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Janie Bell Elkins of Orlando, Fla. His second marriage was to Miss Thelma Beam, who died in 1954.  Surviving now are his widow, the former Miss Cynthia Beam and three brothers, Basil R. and Jesse Peake of Winnsboro and Leslie Peake of Ridgeway.  Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ridgeway Baptist with interment in Atwell Cemetery.

Miss Nellie Moore Pearson, 72, died at a hospital in Columbia at 3 o’clock this morning after and extended illness.   She was a daughter of the late George Butler and Catherine Sanders Pearson of Fontaflora plantation in Fairfield county. She spent many years in Winnsboro, but had lived the latter part of her life with her sister, Mrs. J. G. Martin , who survives.  In addition to her sister, survivors include several nieces and nephews.   Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon from the Episcopal church of Winnsboro by the Rev. Mr. Mawnie of Rock Hill. Interment will follow in the Episcopal cemetery. The body will remain at Harden’s Funeral home until the hour of the funeral service at cemetery.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.  Surviving are son, Robert L. Sharpe, Jr., of Winnsboro; sister, June Bowers of Yemassee; grandsons, Robbie Sharpe and Ryan Sharpe of Winnsboro.

Mr. Shirley, 80, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Chester County Hospital.
Born in Fairfield County on Oct. 30, 1922, he was a son of the late Charlie Rawls Shirley and Janie McKeown Shirley. A member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church until its closing, Mr. Shirley was currently a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. A graduate of Blackstock High School, Mr. Shirley attended Clemson University and was a retired serviceman with Par Gas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Estelle Banks Shirley; two sons, Charles Shirley and his wife, Phyllis, and Eddie Shirley, all of Blackstock; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Sarah S. McDaniel of Carlisle.  Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery Fund, C/O Florie Boulware, 119 Hinton St., Chester or to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 1660 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Chester.

WINNSBORO — Funeral services for Daniel DeVinney Timms, Sr., 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Union Memorial Presbyterian Church, PCA, conducted by Reverend Rob Korn and Reverend Dan Edwards. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Born in Fairfield County on May 25, 1919, he was the son of the late David Young Timms and Susan Ida McCants Timms. Mr. Timms died Sunday, February 6, 2005. He was a lifetime member of Union Memorial Church, PCA, having served as Deacon, Ruling Elder for 47 years, Clerk of Session for 30 years, Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years and Sunday School teacher for 40 years. He was also the Vice President from Union Memorial for the American Bible Society for 40 years. Mr. Timms was a member of the Pomaria Masonic Lodge Number 151 for more than 50 years and served as a past Worthy Patron. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16. Proudly he served his country on Saipan during World War II in the U.S. Army, (73rd Wing, Twentieth Air Force). He retired from Hobgood Electric Co.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 ½ years, Maude Frick Timms, of the home; two sons, Daniel D. Timms, Jr. (Cathy) and John Rufus Frick Timms (Donna); a daughter, Deborah T. Gantt (Steve); and six grandsons, Daniel D. Timms, III, Martin Timms, Jared Timms, Scotty Timms, Jacob Gantt and Kyle Gantt, all of Winnsboro; brothers, David Y. Timms of Sabine Pass, Texas, and Joe E. Timms of Conway, South Carolina. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas W. Timms.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Memorial PCA Church or a charity of one’s choice.  The family will receive visitors at Pope Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, from 5 until 7 p.m.
